Adam's story begins as a young prince, raised by his servants in a beautiful Château by the Swiss border in France, just outside of a forest, and next to a quiet little town. He was the only son of the late King and Queen of France, and when his parents passed away during an unfortunate carriage accident involving bandits, Adam was placed as the sole heir to take his father's place. Such a young age of seven years of age, the young Prince found himself buckling under the pressure of suddenly being the most important young lad in the kingdom, while also having to cope with his childhood being so roughly torn from him. He was given whatever he wanted, and denied almost nothing, with his servants catering to his whims. Adam was forced to endure long, tedious lessons on subject matters he never quite understood, or had the maturity to handle, and the constant prodding of politics didn't help matters either. Shut away all days in his shining castle, not even allowed to wander, unless to visit with foreign dignitary.

The culmination of pressure of power, pushes by politics, and his own rushed youth, were the factors that helped turn him into the horrible and cruel boy he would become, where he discovered that, should he be callous and untempered, he could get away with what he wished. He took spite upon everything that was attempting to control him, such as his governors and governesses (who he swiftly removed) and even his servants. He strongly believed that he shouldn't have to deal with the troubles of the kingdom with his own world crumbling before him.

The young Prince, a downright terror, as word went through the kingdom.

Word must have gone through magic channels as well, because it wasn't long after Adam's reign of terror of his castle and total disregard for his subjects, did a magical visitor decide to test the mettle of the young Prince's heart, which by the time of his eleventh year, had become dark and cold. An Enchantress arrived at the doorstep of Adam's castle, and asked for shelter in the guise of an old, weak woman wanting to get out of the rain. Adam refused, and by doing so, failed the test. And so, the Enchantress cursed Adam to be the beast he had become. The curse only gave Adam all the more reason to spite everything he could see and retreat into himself in self-loathing. He despised the creature he had become, and only grew more and more bitter and cold in his cursed castle. As a beast, Adam was cold and cruel, though not malicious or violent with objects, he did destroy his West Wing and cause much damage, but after that, he catered to himself and tooks things as they came to him.

No longer a Beast, Adam tries his best to be kind and good, and not give anyone a glimpse at the spoiled, arrogant child, or cold, cruel Beast, he once was. He is giving, he is helpful, and he wants to be of more use to try to make-up for all those years he put his servants, his subjects, and himself through. While he can forgive others with such comfortable ease after all those years under the Enchantress's enchantment, he finds difficult in forgiving himself. This is to the point that he has the capability to feel deep wells of guilt. However, this doesn't stop his mischievous side. He does still like to pull pranks and cause some trouble, as he never grew out of that childish trait, and it isn't uncommon for the castle to experience a kerfuffle due to one of Adam's little jokes. Belle swiftly deals with her husband's behavior, thankfully.

Despite his temper being better managed, Adam still has a terribly stubborn nature that is even tempermental at times if he is irked continuously. Worse if his castle or his lovely wife is in danger, he lashes out and attacks verbally, and perhaps even physically should lives be placed in dark danger. Adam still has issues with placing his trust in strangers beyond his castle, and even the slight reluctance to conform to new ideals. This stubborn nature often presents itself with a childish tone, such as outright refusing to do something if he finds it hard and complicated, and then wandering off to brood (or in the words of Princess Belle, sulk and pout). He doesn't like to be closed into spaces, whether locked in a room or kept within the castle with no escape. He also doesn't want to be a slave to his throne. After years of stuck inside the castle, he wants freedom to explore the world he'd ignored for seven years. He's eager to be without duties and responsibilities, however, he is aware of his title as Prince and the trials that come with his heritage and is prepared to undergo the lessons and titles he must bear.

...though don't think this means he will comply quietly.

Adam is also incredibly bashful and sheepish when at loss for words. Belle can make testament to this fact, as Adam has countlessly lost track of his words when conversing over certain topics. He can be perceived as naive to the world to which he's awakened by the breaking of the enchantment. He struggles to learn the new hierarchy of ideals that flow through his kingdom and across the world, and relies mostly on Belle to assist his studies, though Cogsworth has proven to be a ruthless, though diligent, teacher of the basic tools of knowledge needed to rule. At times, his fluster may lead to stammering, or if provoked far enough, a glimpse of his legendary temper. Like any young man, he does not find amusement in his own follies and takes his flaws to heart. He will find peace with joviality centered on his person if given the proper pushes to enjoy the moment, but this rarely happens outside of the company he knows--strangers are treated more with serious solemnity.

۞ History:
Once upon a time there was a young prince born to a rich family. His father and mother cared for him deeply, and gave him whatever he wished. He ordered about the servants and romped with the servants' children, while causing the main staff much frustration. He was not an avid listener and neglected his studies. However, what he did pay much atention to was mischief. He enjoyed pulling pranks and causing troube and at some point it wasn't uncommon for the young prince to be sent to his room for ruining a formal dinner or ball. His parents were really the only people who were able to reign the mischievous Prince Adam in. So when his parents died during a carriage accident, something snapped withn the young prince that no one could attempt to control.

He grew up a nightmare for the staff. He refused any attempt of comfort or help, and turned away noble visitors or even visiting distant family. At some point, the royal family left Adam in his little castle, with only the servants for company. There, he did what he pleased, when he pleased, however he pleased. And then one Christmas Eve...an old woman came to the castle, seeking shelter. All she could offer in return was a single red rose...

Adam turned her away, and when she transformed into a beautiful enchantress...he knew trouble was afoot. The woman cursed him, and the entire castle, for the slight. She put an enchantment on Adam that turned him into a beastly creature, and upon the servants, who took their place as objects in their main serving roles. She left Adam a chance to break the curse, however... With the single red rose that Adam had rejected, he could redeem himself if he could have someone fall in love with him. The rose would live on with Adam...but would slowly wilt petals until, when his twenty-first birthday came around, the last petal would fall, and Adam would perish, and the servants would be enchanted forever.

Adam seemed content with moping about his castle, forever frustrated and aggravated and ordering about his enchanted servants who desperately hoped that a fair maiden would come along who would break the curse. But time passed, and the petals continued to wilt and it seemed that all hope was lost, for who could ever could love the Beast...

Years later, a beautiful but unusual young woman named Belle lives in a nearby French village with her father Maurice, who is an inventor. Belle loves reading and yearns for a life beyond the village. She is courted by the arrogant local hero, Gaston, but has no interest in him.

Maurice's latest invention is a wood-chopping machine. When he rides through the woods to display the machine at a fair, he loses his way and is chased by wolves before stumbling upon the Beast's castle, where he meets the transformed servants Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Mrs. Potts and her son Chip. The Beast imprisons Maurice, but Belle, shortly after declining Gaston's proposal for marriage, is led back to the castle by Maurice's horse and offers to take her father's place. When the Beast agrees to this and sends him home, Maurice tells Gaston and the other villagers what happened, but they think he has lost his mind, so he goes to rescue Belle alone.

Meanwhile, the Beast orders Belle to dine with him, but she refuses, and Lumiere disobeys his order not to let her eat. After Cogsworth gives her a tour of the castle, she finds the rose in a forbidden area and the Beast angrily chases her away. Frightened, she tries to escape, but she and her horse are attacked by wolves. After the Beast rescues her, she nurses his wounds, he gives her the castle library as a gift, and they become friends. Later, they have an elegant dinner and a romantic ballroom dance. When he lets her use the magic mirror...

۞ Magical Powers, Skills, and Weapons:
Adam was once a beast, but now he is a young man with above average strength and a good knack for brawling. With his past as a beast, Adam is capable of fistfights and rougher than rough roughhousing. It is of no concern to him should he ruin his clothes or his appearance with his fighting if he is defending those he loves and cherishes. Adam has exception skill with offensive attacks, but prefers to not use this rather animal-like side of himself unless it is for the sake of supreme defense or securing the safety of his precious people.

۞ Other Abilities:
Adam knows both French and English fluently, and is a fantastic ballroom dancer. He is an excellent reader (thanks to Belle) and has a large fascination and appreciation for literature. He is able to find solace and quiet in books and also a method of soothing when his mood takes a nosedive. Adam is also a wonderful horseback rider, climber, and since young age, has had the capability for mischief of great proportions.

۞ Journal Sample:
So this... [ The mirror is blocked by blue fabric. Big blue fabric. Oh, it's a jacket. The person backs up and then tilts the mirror to look upwards, and the face of a young man, though still boyish, can be seen. One would expect a new arrival to the citadel to be a tad upset at the least, but there's an eagerness in the man's features. ] ...is a strange city. Not at all France -- no, the local dialect is conflicting.

[ He turns his head to look over his shoulder. ] And yet ...the people seem familiar and the manner of which they go about their mornings is quite calm. I would think that they would be a little bothered by our presence? We are strangers within their home, after all. But then ...I could be paranoid and they could have already welcomed us with hope that we would aid their queen...

[ He straightens. ] ...which I intend to do. Ah... [ Sheepish, he nervously smiles. ] Where do I request admission into the citadel's army?

۞ Third Person Sample:
Horseback riding had always been one of Adam's favorite things to do when he was a child. All he had to do was ask the stablehand to saddle a horse, prepare the reigns, and then Adam could hop right on, click the reigns, and he and the horse would then shoot out of the stables past the gates and into the lush land beyond the chateau. Sometimes his servants would follow, but seeing as there was nowhere to go but into the countryside (and he'd never considered running away, even with a horse and provisions) he would always return, usually by sundown, as was his preference.

Of course when he was a beast, he never wanted to leave the chateau. But that'd been because of his appearance and also the harsh reality of what he'd gotten himself into.

But the urge is back for Adam, now older, wiser, and much well-mannered thanks to his love, Belle. He has the desire to see the world beyond the chateau he's known since childhood. Of the pair, Belle is not the only one who wants adventure in the great wide somewhere. When he was little, Adam would read stories about pirates and magicians and Arabs and would dream that someday he would see all these wonderful things with his own two eyes, but then the wonderful daydream would be interrupted by a servant reminding him about a lesson to attend or one of the maid telling him to clean up and he'd be rudely returned to his confined reality.

As they near a good resting spot, Adam tugs at his horse's reigns, though gently, so as to not strain the animal's jaw. They come to a stop by the beaulieu tree, Adam hopping off his mount and then tying the horse's reigns to a low-hanging branch. He fishes into his doublet for the apple he'd pocketed before leaving the chateau, and gives it a good toss. The horse catches the treat in his mouth and begins to eats, leaving Adam to sit down on the grass, sitting up against the tree's trunk. He folds his arms behind his head and reclines, watching the clouds go by in the sky.

He's been doing a lot of thinking.

Since returning from isolation, Adam has garnered much attention from foreign dignitaries. Who is this prince? Where had he been hiding all this time? Was he still legitimate? All the questions that pressed into envelopes and papers that would sit upon Adam's study's desk, waiting to be answered. But Adam wasn't interested in taking his crown just yet. Not when everyone now seemed to expect him to know what to do and do it right.

He'd been raised spoiled in the chateau, never leaving any farther than three miles from the grounds, isolated himself in the same chateau, and knew nothing firsthand about the world beyond France.

That needed to change.

Adam used to hide in the hedge maze in order to avoid his tutors and servants when he was a little boy. His favorite spot to hide was in the center, next to a rock that looked like a gnome. He would watch the clouds go by until someone found him and brought him back to the castle.

He used to have a tutor named Monsieur LeBeau, who tried to teach Adam how to write reports. He was always attempting to make learning fun for Adam, but Adam rather played with his toys.

His favorite toys were toy soldiers.
